Among the biotopes present in Puglia of great naturalistic importance are:

wetlands (mainly on the Adriatic side)
the “gravine”, deep erosive incisions of karstic origin typical of the high plain of the Murgia
the “lame”, similar to “gravine” but less deep

underground caves

Protected areas
Protected areas reach 7% of the regional surface and include:

– the Gargano National Park with 118.144 ha
– the Alta Murgia National Park with 67,739 ha
♦ n. 3 Marine areas:
– the Tremiti Islands
– Torre Guaceto
– Porto Cesareo
♦ n. 11 regional parks
♦ n. 17 State reserves
♦ n. 7 regional riserve
