Apulia / Handicraft

The tradition of Apulian craftsmanship is influenced by the influence of numerous cultures of which, over the centuries, Apulia has been an important crossroads. The artifacts, created to satisfy daily domestic and work needs and created with the use of simple materials, have evolved, from generation to generation, to become valuable masterpieces.

The handicraft products, the result of manual skill, imagination and ingenuity, survive the competition of similar objects produced by industry, thanks to their beauty and as a sign of identity of the local culture. This is why crafts represent an important resource both from an economic and a touristic point of view.

The most significant handicraft products in Apulia are: Ceramics and terracotta vases, papier-mâché sculptures, hand-made fabrics, lace, embroidery, wrought iron and copper, wickerwork and rushes.
